I enjoyed this warm-hearted contemporary romance, about two people who seem worlds apart. Sylvie Thorne behaved shamefully, by running out on her kind fiancé Dr. Andrew O'Shea in Boston. She remade her life in Wyoming’s town Jackson Hole and opened a bakery, which nicely provides the title, LOVE ME SWEET.
I hadn’t heard of a concierge physician previously. Andrew as a qualified physician is treating patients on an individual, custom-care basis, but he knows his passion for medicine has an expiry date. He’ll be called upon to take the reins of O’Shea Sports, the expanding family business. While he never felt Sylvie was beneath him, she grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and is painfully conscious that not everyone thinks they made a good match. Andrew finds her at the opening of this story and is determined to get some answers or prove to himself that they were really not suited.
If the storyline sounds familiar, this may be because you read an earlier version, The Doctor’s Runaway Fiancée, released in 2016. Cindy Kirk has updated her novel and it reads well, as part of the popular ‘Jackson Hole’ series. I especially like the two main characters, Sylvie’s creativity, and cheerfulness despite a hard life, and Andrew’s genuine wish to treat anyone who needs medical care, but he is dealing with his conflicting loyalties. The town is populated by a busy and passionate cast of characters, some of whom grace earlier books. I would be interested in finding out how they arrived and made friends. Wyoming seems as fast paced as any city, especially for a baker rising at three each morning, but the difference is that here, people can take the time to get to know neighbors and care about their problems. Social events are about more than showing off clothes and glitz.
LOVE ME SWEET provides a fun and sexy romance with just enough drama. This proved a great break from crime books and a much-needed dose of creative determination. I’ll be revisiting Cindy Kirk and Jackson Hole for sure.
Cinderella and Prince Charming don't only live happily ever after in fairy tales...
Sylvie Thorne doesn't consider herself a runaway fiancée. Okay, she did leave her fiancé, Dr. Andrew O'Shea, behind but logic told her it was for the best. She should have never accepted his ring. She was a struggling baker trying to rise above her humble beginnings and he was a Boston blueblood. It was obvious, at least to his family and friends, that they were an imperfect match.
When Sylvie bolted, she didn't leave a glass slipper for Andrew to find, only a simple text. She never expected him to follow her to Jackson Hole wanting closure.
Twenty-one days with Sylvie is all he asks. Three weeks for him to accept that they were never meant for happily ever after. Instead of proving how little they have in common, all the conversation and togetherness makes for a sweet reunion and has this prince-of-a-guy hoping fairy tales really can come true ...
