Grace Isabel MacKenna has a million things to do but doesn't expect to be GRACE UNDER FIRE. She finds herself in deep trouble when a wounded man falls into her arms with his shooter coming after them both. Thank goodness for the Buchanan family who send Michael Buchanan to help straighten out the mess. After all, she fired in self-defense never expecting the assailant to drop dead. Too bad Michael has been a thorn in her side for years and though she should be grateful, she just can't do it. Unfortunately, Michael has decided to be her guardian angel so despite all her arguments, he is unmoved. It seems her trip to Scotland to visit the estate she had inherited from a long-lost relative was not going to be the calm getaway she had planned - not with the irritating and way too sexy bodyguard she is stuck with.
GRACE UNDER FIRE is author Julie Garwood at her very best with the intriguing dialogue, visuals of the world around them and, of course, Grace (who is also called Isabel by some) and Michael. Their banter is some of the funniest I have read in a while - both armed with fantastic comebacks. They also have good heads on their shoulders as they work out a plan for the property she has inherited with it's heap of trouble. There is also a lot of hilarity in Grace's driving skills - which probably saves her life. You will have to read GRACE UNDER FIRE to enjoy those moments.
To add to the storyline Grace/Isabel is a very talented songwriter and gets caught up in the life of a famous singer. Michael also has his life in a bit of an upheaval as he is about to change careers which also adds to the storyline. So it is very interesting watching this couple get over their "dislike" of one another, find out it's love and figure out how to be in love.
The threats come in many forms and add to the suspense of it all. Some of the bad guys are very easily picked out as they are named early on but the final danger that hits Grace will take many readers by surprise. And isn't that what suspense readers want - to be surprised by the outcome at the end of a fantastic read!
GRACE UNDER FIRE is a well written, fun, and fascinating read. The perfect escape, the perfect drama, the perfect happily ever after.
Michael Buchanan will need every bit of his
extensive skill set when he appoints himself as bodyguard to
a woman determined not to need one in this thrilling new
novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author
Julie Garwood.
Grace Isabel MacKenna had
a hundred things to do today. Killing someone
wasn’t one of them. It was supposed to be a
quick visit to Boston for the Buchanan anniversary party,
then on to Scotland to collect an inheritance. She
checks into the hotel and then decides to go for a brisk
walk. But after getting lost she ends up with a
wounded man stumbling into her arms, and then his shooter
coming after them both. When she fires back in self-
defense, she doesn’t expect him to drop dead.
Thanks to the Buchanans dispatching former Navy SEAL and now
a lawyer Michael Buchanan to help her deal with the police,
Isabel endures hours of interrogation and is finally free to
go.
Isabel knows she should be grateful for
Michael’s help, but since she’s harbored an
extreme dislike for him for years, gratitude is difficult to
muster. Michael has appointed himself her de facto
guardian, and she’s stuck with him despite their
constant bickering and sizzling attraction. Even when
Isabel goes to Scotland to claim her inheritance, Michael
follows her, but he isn’t the only thing she
can’t shake. Mysterious threats against Isabel
surface, and before they can deal with their growing
feelings for each other, Michael and Isabel must first
survive.
