Anybody Out There?
Marian Keyes

Women's Fiction Contemporary

Marion Keyes is a popular author of the genre known as 'Chick Lit'. She has written several books featuring different Walsh sisters. Her newest entitled, ANYBODY OUT THERE?, is the story of Anna and her recovery from a tragic accident that affected her in ways that run deeper than the physical injuries from which she has almost recovered. Anna has spent weeks in Ireland at the family home recovering. When she decides she is ready to return to her life in New York her sister Rachel, who also lives in New York, flies back to Ireland to accompany her home. Once in New York Anna's friends try to keep her occupied, but Anna wants to be left alone. Her physical injuries might be almost healed, but the emotional ones run much deeper, and she is not yet ready to start the healing process just yet. She tries to pretend everything is fine, but when she's alone in her apartment she wallows in her emotions. The depth of her despair almost overwhelms her, and she comes close to hitting rock bottom -- but does manage to overcome her grief. I have never read a story by Marion Keyes and while I did enjoy ANYBODY OUT THERE?, I could not help but feel as though a part of the story were missing. I did some research to find out that there were previous stories about the Walsh family, and wonder if had I read one of those first would I have felt more emotionally connected to Anna, and her tragic accident. According to Ms. Keye's website, you do not need to read the previous stories to read the newest. Again, I would agree, but would have to say I wish I had as I have already stated I feel confident I would have felt more connected to Anna on an emotional level had I known her background. Overall, ANYBODY OUT THERE? is a book that is easy to follow, and even though there are many secondary characters they all relate well with one another, and with Anna, and are so well written that they are easy to keep straight. Now I have to dig into my TBR pile and dig out the books I own that are written by Ms. Keyes.

SUMMARY

Life is perfect for Anna Walsh. She has the “Best Job in the World” as a PR exec for a top-selling urban beauty brand, a lovely apartment in New York, and a perfect husband -- the love of her life, Aidan Maddox. Until the morning she wakes up in her mammy's living room in Dublin with stitches in her face, a dislocated knee, and completely smashed-up hands -- and no memory of how she got there. While her mammy plays nursemaid (just like all of her favorite nurses on her soaps), and her sister Helen sits in wet hedges doing her private investigator work for Lucky Star PI, Anna tries to get better and keeps wondering why Aidan won't return her phone calls or e-mails.

Recuperating from her injuries, a mystified Anna returns to Manhattan. Slowly beginning to remember what happened, she sets off on a search to find Aidan -- a hilarious quest involving lilies (she can't stop smelling them), psychics, mediums, and anyone in the city who can promise her a reunion with her beloved...
