The crown prince has plans to release a prehistoric whale, a Livyatan melvillei, back into the ocean. Not only will this appease animal rights groups who are actively protesting, but the whale is a male and they need females to ensure the longevity of their exhibits. At the same time the drugged Livayan melvillei is starting to come out of its stupor on the Tonga vessel, a Liopleurodon is in its holding tank as the crown prince is about to take ownership of both the Lio and the Taylors’ aquarium featuring prehistoric animals. Unfortunately, things go awry and now Jonas and David Taylor, along with their family and acquaintances, will have to help out if they hope to get their money from the crown prince or risk losing everything their family has.
MEG: GENERATIONS is the sixth book in the Megseries. Much of the back story necessary to appreciate MEG: GENERATIONS is provided, but it can be a bit overwhelming when combined with all of the scientific information on all the various creatures. I also suspect that fans of the series will feel more strongly about the characters and their various problems than a new reader, simply because it’s harder to get attached to the characters when most of my prior knowledge came from the Jason Statham Meg movie.
There are a plethora of characters and prehistoric animals in MEG: GENERATIONS. Fortunately, most action driven plots tend to be fairly easy to follow although a couple times I had to skip back and forth to ensure I kept the characters straight. The action scenes are phenomenal, and I can easily envision MEG: GENERATIONS as a movie… and I think therein lies my problem with the overall story. More than once I found myself picturing Jason Statham and the giant Meg in scenes, even when it wasn’t Statham’s character or a Meg. I don’t know if that says more about the book itself than it does of my love of Jason Statham movies though!
In MEG: Generations, Steve Alten New York Times bestselling author continues his terrifying series.
MEG: GENERATIONS opens where MEG: NIGHTSTALKERS left off. The Liopleurodon offspring has been moved to a holding tank aboard the Dubai-Land transport ship, Tonga for its journey to the Middle East. While the Crown Prince’s investors gawk at the creature, below deck in the tanker’s hold, another captured beast is awakened from its drug-induced state and goes on a rampage. The vessel sinks, the Lio escapes
