Rebecca and Brian always felt they had a perfect life. Rebecca worked for the FBI and was Brian a coder with National Security. As they both moved up the chain line at their jobs, their marriage was on its way down. Rebecca was working more and more and Brian was taking care of their two kids, Kira and Tony.
They were always trying to catch up with their bills until one day Brian sells an app for two million dollars. Now they can finally buy a house and pay down their debt. The one big problem is Brian has a little secret; he loves going to strip joints and getting lap dances from women, and one time things went further than that. The next time Brian shows up at the strip club, he's confronted by Ivor, who knows about how far things went and says he has the whole encounter on tape. If Brian isn't willing to go along with Ivor's demands, his secret will be revealed and his life ruined.
Rebecca and Brian decide for their twenty wedding anniversary the family is going to take an overseas trip. Everything seems to be fine until the night that Kira and Tony decide to go out and explore on their own. While they're out, Kira meets a man named Jacques who wants to see her again. They make plans to meet the next night. Kira shows up for the date, but Jacques comes with another woman named Lily, and they both convince her to go with them to a bunch of different bars. Kira ends up drugged and Jacques and Lily kidnap her... Kira's family soon has a ransom note asking for two million dollars for Kira's return.
Rebecca uses all of her FBI power to try and find her daughter. Brian, on the other hand, has the feeling that this has something to do with his deal with Ivor. When Rebecca is out of the room, he calls Ivor, but really doesn't get an answer. In the meantime, Kira is trying her best to escape from this harrowing situation.
Throughout this dreadful situation, Rebecca has a feeling that Brian is hiding something from her. Brian begins to realize that Rebecca is getting suspicious about how he is involved with everything. Will either one tell the other what is going on?
I really enjoyed THE POWER COUPLE by Alex Berenson. Berenson really kept me guessing about what was going on. I was also intrigued by the relationships between parents and children, and how they can change as everyone grows older. I did find myself skimming some parts because I wanted to return to the action of the story. If you like thrillers, THE POWER COUPLE by Alex Berenson is the book for you. I have to say the ending completely surprised me!
