Amish | Romance | Suspense

Rachel needs a job and a place to live.  Her deceased mother's former employer, Geraldine Withers, needs a housekeeper.  The position comes with a salary and room and board.  Hired on the spot, Rachel is relieved.  However, the position quickly becomes more than she bargained for when Ms. Geraldine's niece unexpectedly deposits her surly daughter with her aunt for the summer.  Then, Rachel discovers her former fiance, Jacob, also works for Ms. Geraldine.  Can Rachel handle all this

From the beginning, there is an undercurrent in the narrative.  There is tension between Rachel and Jacob.  Ms. Geraldine's selfish relatives all have ulterior motives for visiting her.  Strange things start happening and Rachel begins to struggle with her memories of the past.

Rachel is a compelling and interesting character.  She is compassionate and understanding.  Except for when she is arguing with Jacob, she measures every word and does her best to be considerate. Jacob is different in that he tends to be more direct and bossy.  Compromise is not something that comes easily to him.  As the story moves along, he questions if he ever really got over losing Rachel all those years ago.  Could there still be something between them? Ms. Geraldine is a proud and wise woman.  Can she handle all that her family wants of her?

AMISH SECRETS is a beautifully told engrossing story.  Romance, family, mystery and danger are blended together perfectly.  This book is well worth reading. Highly recommended.

SUMMARY

Rachel Hurst sacrificed the life she wanted to stay home and care for her father and siblings after her mother’s death. But now her father has decided to remarry, and there’s no room for Rachel. Desperate to find a job, she accepts the position of housekeeper for a wealthy elderly woman in her isolated mansion.

Jacob Beiler thought he had gotten over Rachel’s rejection, but when she arrives as the new housekeeper, he is battered by both joy and bitterness at seeing her again.

When odd near accidents threaten the elderly woman’s well-being, her relatives are quick to point fingers, but Rachel suspects someone is intent on harming her employer. When no one believes her, the only person she can turn to for help is Jacob. With danger deepening, Rachel faces a situation that could cost her life…and will certainly break her heart once again.
