Brian Kavanagh a detective in homicide is assigned a case of a floater in the river, along with his partner Ron. These are the cases that Brain really hates. The victim is a young woman, but as of right now no id on her. After Brian heads to one of his favorite bars, Borland's Mill. While he is talking with the bartender Rory, he tells Brian that Jose the other bartender has not shown up for work in a few days.
Brian being a cop, tells him they could go to his apartment and just do a simple wellness check. Little did Brian know they would find Jose dead. The other thing they come across is that the floater they found is Jose's sister. So what does connect these two murders?
Brian and Ron are checking everything they could on these two murders when suddenly they are pulled from the case. The chief gives them some lame excuse, but Brian knows that this is all politics. Brian is so pissed off that he retires sooner than he wanted to, but he just can't stand the bs that is happening.
Even though he has retired, he knows that there is more to this than just two people of the same family getting murdered. Brian is still investigating these murders even though the cops claim they have the killer in jail. Brian just has a hard time with this and he gets with Lily, an attorney, they find out that the man in jail is taking the rap for the real murderer.
Shawn Wilson's RELENTLESS is a great thriller and a start to a new series. I really enjoyed how he showed Brian even though retired would not give up on these murders. Wilson also has a little romance in this story with Brian and Lily, but not too much. Wilson has a way of drawing you into the story and keeps you hooked until the end.
