Romance Western
MY KIND OF COWBOY is actually book one in R.C. Ryan’s Wranglers of Wyoming series. Needless to mention I am reading this series out of order which often happens to me. I read and reviewed This Cowboy Of Mine which is number two several months ago and absolutely loved the story and characters. So I jumped at the chance to get my hands on MY KIND OF COWBOY and so glad I did.
MY KIND OF COWBOY delves into the dynamics of the Merrick family and introduces this wonderful family of characters. Four generations of a family that managed to survive and prosper on land surrounded by mountains and wild mustangs. The Merrick family endured hardships and tragedies over the years. We are immediately alerted to the fact that this family sticks together and supports each other which has been immensely important.
MY KIND OF COWBOY centers on Brand Merrick and Avery Grant. Brand is the oldest son of Bo Merrick and along with his brothers lives in a grand home surrounded by the love of his great grandfather, grandmother, and grandfather and his widowed father Bo. Each of Bo’s sons branched out on their own career choices now that they are adults. Brand works along with his family on the Merrick Ranch and is recovering from an accident that has left him in pain. Let’s not fail to mention that Brand along with most of the male population of this family is stubborn to the core.
So we have the most delightful push and pull between Brand who absolutely rejects the idea of taking valuable time away from his ranching responsibilities and Avery who was hired to restart his very necessary physical therapy. Everyone sees the pain that Brand still suffers. He needs to regain the strength and mobility of his injured leg. Avery knows that unless he does the physical therapy he just might be hampered with this disability for life.
You might be tempted to ask why Brand wouldn’t just let Avery help him. It would certainly only take a select amount of time away from the ranching and the bonus would be to alleviate pain. But here’s where the famous Merrick stubbornness comes into play.
Avery is very smart and shrewd. She realizes almost immediately that she needs a champion on her side. Here is where the absolute genius of R. C. Ryan comes into play.
R.C. Ryan knows that her ranchers need to maintain strength, honor, discipline, and independence. Learning to accept help from someone is a challenge. Avery is up for this challenge. Now she only has to find an opening to work her own special brand of magic on this larger than life tough cowboy.
My money is on Avery. So far the Wranglers of Wyoming promises to be a wonderfully entertaining and engaging saga. The first two books are awesome and each truly does stand alone. I can’t wait for number three to hit the stands. In the meantime, MY KIND OF COWBOY should definitely be on your must-read list.
SUMMARY
This New York Times bestselling author delivers a "page-turning romance" (Nora Roberts) about a city girl on the run and the strong, protective cowboy who keeps her safe.
Brand Merrick is a take-charge cowboy who considers relax a four-letter word. So when an injury lands him six weeks of physical therapy, he intends to keep right on working-until his grandmother hires a therapist to stay at their family ranch. He's not used to following orders, or slowing down, but Avery Grant has a way of getting him to do things he'd never thought he'd do . . .
Avery hates to admit it, but this super sexy rancher is testing her patience...and her professionalism. She's a born-and-bred city girl, yet she finds herself drawn to the rugged wilderness and the equally rugged cowboy she's here to help. But when a threat from her past follows Avery to Montana, it's Brand who rides to the rescue-if only she'll put her trust in him, and the growing feelings in her heart.
