Women's Fiction

In Houston, Texas during the 1930s, Ilona, a Greek restauranteur's daughter dares to marry the love of her life rather than the man that her parents hope she will end up with. Living happily as a prominent wife to Patrick, Ilona gives birth to two children: Cadmus and Callista. But as the years pass and her children grow up, Cadmus turns out to have a secret of his own: that he prefers men to women. When the two end up fighting and Ilona dies, Cadmus is rent with guilt but continues to live his own life, finding happiness with another up until 2014 when he ends up in a home and wants to make amends before his life is over. How will he succeed when his memory becomes faulty and he cannot remember that his mother has passed away?

From the time of her birth in 1973 up until modern times, Delphina has lived what seems to be a parallel life of Ilona, except she seemed to suffer from constant anxiety. While trying to deal with her emotions, Delphina comes to a startling realization about herself, especially since her hidden memories and familiarities match up to that of a woman who died years ago: that she is Ilona Doyle, mother to Cadmus (She would remember things that Ilona often remembered). What will Delphina's purpose be now that she discovered her real self? Will she remember the son she had borne in previous life that needs her?

Told with compassion, an eye for detail as well as daring to deal with LGBTQI and supernatural topics, DROPS OF CERULEAN by Dawn Adams Cole is a story that will end up being buried deep within the reader's heart, causing them to question the reality of life and what they know of it. For readers that are searching for an unusual tale that covers topics of LGBTQI as well as reincarnation and past life regression, DROPS OF CERULEAN by Dawn Adams Cole will be the perfect fit.

SUMMARY

A story of love, loss, and rebirth

Spanning the years 1930–2014, Drops of Cerulean chronicles the lives of Ilona, the daughter of a Greek restaurateur, who marries into a prominent Houston family; her son, Cadmus, who becomes a professor and then moves into a retirement home after his husband passes away; and Delphina, an anxiety-ridden woman with a mysterious recurring dream.

Ilona and Cadmus have a falling out when Cadmus is a young man, and before they are able to reconcile, Ilona dies. Cadmus is plagued with guilt and feels responsible for the death of his mother. Two worlds collide when, years later, Delphina comes to understand that she had been Ilona, Cadmus’s mother, in her previous life. Well written and engaging, Drops of Cerulean deals with topics such as socioeconomic class, LGBT rights and acceptance, rebirth, and past-life regression.

Set in Houston and revolving around the city’s ever-changing skyline, Drops of Cerulean is an amazing debut from a gifted writer.
