The past sometimes has a way of not letting go. Sometimes that is good but often it is not. Rae Trujillo had married Riley Kittredge way too young and life drove a wedge between them. Though the love might still be there, in a way, she knows she can't keep going in limbo. She can't keep spending SECRET NIGHTS WITH A COWBOY no matter how enticing the cowboy is. She wants a home and family, so she asks for a divorce. Riley isn't about to let go of his woman, but when she finally tells him the secret she had been harboring will the marriage finally be over?
SECRET NIGHTS WITH A COWBOY is a very fascinating look at love, life, marriage too young, and second chances. I have to admit that some of this couple's story made me want to tell both of them to grow up and for heaven's sake talk to each other. Despite the love that is obvious, Rae and Riley are really volatile and the years of separation hadn't changed that aspect at all.
Their story is heartbreaking at times and you find yourself rooting for them as they begin to work out all the bad feelings they hold against one another. There were no good role models for marriage for them but the readers could literally feel the love this couple shares. Their families are very interesting, with characters that many readers can relate to, They aren't perfect they have faults of their own, just as all families do.
SECRET NIGHTS WITH A COWBOY is the first of author Caitlin Crews' new Kittredge Ranch series and a seriously enticing read. You have your cowboy, his brothers who fight, bicker and have each other's backs and that is always a good thing or not. Rae finds her backbone and finally tells her family where she stands in the family flower shop business. Riley finds out the hows and whys of his parents' marriage and that things do not have to be that way. And then there is--oh, sorry no spoilers--you have to read SECRET NIGHTS WITH A COWBOY to get a good look at the incredible happily ever after for this couple.
An added bonus with this book is a novella SWEET NIGHTS WITH A COWBOY, featuring the youngest Kittredge brother, Connor and a romance of his own. A short but sweet second chance romance when Melissa "Missy" Minton comes back to town with a broken heart. Warned that she is only healing and won't stay, Connor still cannot stop himself from trying to win Missy back. There are only ten chapters, and though short it is another fantastic read featuring the Kittredge world with all the amazingly good feelings as we see a heart coming back home where it has always belonged.
