Thriller

When Eve was twelve, her whole family was murdered by the man that was called "the nothing man." This was not the first murder he had committed, but for years, he has not killed anyone else. Now an author, Eve is writing a novel about her family's murder and all the other ones. At first, it is hard for her to do, but Eve gets help from Ed, a police officer who was on the case back then. While looking for clues as to the murders, Eve talks to several other people and finds that a rope was always found before or after the murders, and in some cases, rape. This proves that "the nothing man" had been in the house before the attacks.

Jim Doyle use to be a police officer and was around during the murders.  Now Jim is a security officer at a local store. When Jim sees this book at the store, it piques his interest and he wonders what Eve really knows about these murders. Jim buys the book, but not at his store as he doesn’t want to answer any questions. Jim feels the need to watch Eve to see just what she is up to. . .

In the meantime, Eve has been signing books at local stores. While talking to a group at one of the events, Eve sees Jim, and for some reason, she feels like she has seen him before. Eve kind of blows it off as meaning nothing. But Jim believes Eve is onhis trail, after he reads the book and sees what she thinks she knows. Worried already about what Eve will do next, Jim also discovers that his wife is suspicious of his involvement, too.

THE NOTHING MAN by Catherine Ryan Howard is a good, suspenseful book with twists and turns.  I have to say at the beginning, it took me a while to get into this book, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down. Howard's descriptions of what Eve went through growing up hit the nail right on the head. can’t even imagine what a young child would go through knowing she was the only one to survive this ordeal.

Howard also shows the determination of Eve knowing no matter what, she has to solve this mystery. I also enjoyed the way that she described Jim, just a guy who no one would ever guess what he was really like. Give THE NOTHING MAN a chance, and don’t give up on it. You will really enjoy it.
