Charged with murder and treason, Rhiannon, the half-human
girl from THE TOWER OF THE RAVENS, awaits trial. Separated
from her lover and confined within the walls of Sorrowgate
Tower, Rhiannon is haunted by the dead and forgotten and
ignored by the living.
A long-dead sorceress has been awakened and schemes to live
again. Lewen has resumed his old life and seems to be
distancing himself from her, and Rhiannon has good reason
to expect a witch's spell is involved. Isabeau, now the
Keybearer, is aware of all that goes on around her, but
distracted by the royal wedding, she's blind to Rhiannon's
warnings that dark magic is afoot. With all those around
her involved in their own worries, schemes and daydreams,
Rhiannon knows it's up to her to wake them up to the danger
slowly enveloping them. But locked in prison with a noose
literally hanging over her head, all seems hopeless. How
can she save those around her when she can't even save
herself?
Solid storytelling has defined Forsyth's writing from the
start with The Witches of Eileanan. This Rhiannon's Ride
series picks up a quarter of a century after the events of
The Fathomless Caves series and is told with all the
integrity and poignancy of the original series. Dark,
exciting, romantic, with strong Celtic overtones, this is a
complicated world but well-worth the time and trouble to
read. Strong female characters have dominated Forsyth's
past novels and she continues the trend here. The book
doesn't end with a cliffhanger but does spin off into the
next book. Rhiannon's Ride is far from over. Look for book
three of the series, THE HEART OF THE STARS, coming next.
In a world of dark spirits, forbidden magic, and intrigue,
Rhiannon awaits trial for murder and treason. Suspecting
that a spell has stolen her lover's heart, she vows to win
him back-and escape to save the land before it's too
late...
