Janette Violet Brantford has loved Adrian Winter, Duke of Raeburn, for so long that her identical twin, Jeanette Rose, has little trouble convincing Violet to take her place when she decides she can no longer marry Adrian. Telling herself she's marrying Adrian because of the huge marriage settlement he's given her family to take care of gambling debts incurred by her father, Violet is determined to make their marriage a success by maintaining the façade of the outspoken, outgoing, party-loving Brantford twin.
Adrian notices almost from the beginning of his marriage that he's seeing a different side of the woman he believes he's married. Going into this marriage with the realization that he'll most likely have to rein in his high-spirited wife, he finds himself falling in love with the thoughtful, kind woman he's married. Violet's feelings for Adrian deepen as their relationship continues, but their happiness is threatened when Jeanette begins to wonder if she's perhaps made a mistake by jilting Adrian and decides she quite possibly wants him back!
THE HUSBAND TRAP, the first book in Ms. Warren's new Trap trilogy, is a fun look at the twins-switching-identities storyline. The characters are lively, the progression of the story believable and, in the end, all get what they deserve. I'm looking forward to reading Jeanette's story in THE WIFE TRAP, then completing the series with THE WEDDING TRAP.
Violet Brantford has always longed for the passionate
embrace of Adrian Winter, the wealthy Duke of Raeburn.
Problem is, heβs set to marry Violetβs vivacious, more
socially polished look-alike twin sister, Jeannette. But
when Jeannette refuses to go through with the ceremony
mere minutes before it is to begin, soft-spoken Violet
finds herself walking down the aisle and taking vows in
her sisterβs place. Soon shy Violet is a high-society
wife, trying to keep her real identity a secret while
living out the fantasies of her wildest dreams.
Adrian thinks he knows exactly what heβs gotten himself
into: Jeannette may be flighty and, well, a bit self-
involved, but sheβs the picture-perfect wife to carry on
the Winter name. Yet this marriage of convenience brings
the groom more than he bargained for when he finds his
sweet, innocent wife surprising him at every turn. And
though he never planned on true love, Adrian is definitely
in danger of losing his heart.
