Attorney Norman Duffy receives a call from Rich, the curator at the Owens House Museum in Denver. Rich tells Norman about an abandoned steamer trunk left at the Union Railroad Station in Denver over two decades ago. He seeks Norman's help for any financial or legal concerns there may be if Rich exhibits the trunk in the museum. When Jillian Duffy, Norman's daughter sees it, she thinks it is a treasure. As an experienced genealogist, Jillian wants to discover who left this handsome trunk unattended for a century needed questions answered and hopefully find its owner. Norman and Jillian live in the beautiful small, mountain town of Canyon Mines. They are active in working with the Heritage Society and currently both active in the upcoming fundraiser. Norman, a widower, learned to cook and is now a great chef. He tells his friends "I had to learn to cook when my wife died because I had to feed my daughter." Now he enjoys his culinary delights as he sings opera while cooking. His donation for the upcoming fundraiser is to prepare dinners for 200 guests. No simple task. Jillian is doing her part is giving a talk bout her favorite topic: genealogy.
In 1909, Lynelle Bendeure is asked by her ailing father to take business documents for a meeting with the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Things are off in their family business and with the help of the investigation by the Pinkerton Detective Agency, Lynnelle plans to meet with the Pinkerton West Division Chief as he has been corresponding with her father while investigating. It will be a long train journey from Ohio to her final destination in Denver. While aboard, Lynelle is befriended by two couples and a single woman. They dine together and visit but she is not sure she can trust them. Her communications with the head of the Western Office of Pinkerton's warn her to be careful. Imposters, financial fraud, and family history all play a part during this journey of discovery. A split-time drama from the past to the present will keep you glued to the pages for clues of misdeeds and people who are not who they say they are. What are their motives? Is Lynnelle in Danger?
Olivia Newport is a sterling storyteller and WHEN I MEET YOU is filled with characters that charm and make you laugh, while others frighten you and question what is really going on. Jillian continues with her searches which leads her to a ranch in Colorado where she meets a handsome cowboy riding a white horse. Drew lives there with his Aunt Min and is interested in Jillian immediately. A touch of romance as his past brings so many coincidences forward. He and Nolan cook and sing together and it is one of the best parts of this bittersweet story. An ending that will clear up so many questions and a good read. Some Christian messaging appears, adding an additional and positive element to WHEN I MEET YOU, which is the third book in the Tree of Life series. I recommend this book that will captivate you. I look forward to the fourth coming soon.
