DEFENDING RAVEN is the seventh and final book in the "Mountain Mercenaries" series and it was well worth the wait. In book six, DEFENDING ZARA, we all shockingly found out the true identity of Rex. The "Mountain Mercenaries" series is a wonderfully written series by Susan Stoker about a group of former military men that was created by Rex. The group was originally formed in order to find Rex's wife, Raven, who disappeared on the night they were celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary in Vegas. She disappeared without a trace and Rex tried everything he knew to do to find her. From frustration, disappointment, and coming across cases of other women and children missing and abused, Rex developed the idea to form a group of men with special skills to rescue women and children who needed help. Even though he still had not found any clues to where Raven was, he still pushed forward to help these women and children. Even though this group of men had never met Rex face to face their trusted him completely. He never disappointed them with his powerful influence in getting whatever he needed.
Each of these mountain mercenaries will find their other half through these rescue missions. These are some really special women with tremendous strength. With all the gruesome things they go through and endure, it's remarkable to see them come out on the other side. Susan Stoker wrote this series with an admirable style of endurance, grace, humility and an abundance of love. If you have not read this series I truly recommend it along with any of her other series.
Now getting to the story of Rex and Raven. To say that the true identity of Rex will come as a shock, does not even cover it. In DEFENDING ZARA, this will be the first time in ten years that Rex has come close to finding Raven. After the mountain mercenaries get over their shock of his identity they assure Rex that under no circumstances will they disappoint him in helping him find his Raven. This journey, just like the others, will be a difficult one. Raven suffered a lot but her rescue will be more difficult because of some newly revealed circumstances. Rex has not waited ten years to give up now. Susan Stoker saved the best for last!!!!
A missing woman leads the alpha heroes on their boldest mission yet in New York Times bestselling author Susan Stoker’s searing Mountain Mercenaries novel.
It’s been ten years since Rex’s wife, Raven, disappeared from a Vegas casino. Never losing hope, he even formed the Mountain Mercenaries to help find her—and other missing wives, sisters, and children. Now Rex and his fearless team are following a lead to Lima, Peru, where the rescue operation is greater than they imagined.
A day at a time. That’s been Raven’s motto for a decade. Once held captive by an elusive sex trafficker, she has an indomitable will to survive. But Raven’s not ready to leave Peru. She can’t. Not yet. Because her liberation from the barrios comes with devastating consequences. One wrong move and all hope will be lost to an unimaginable hell.
For the Mountain Mercenaries, the stakes have been raised. The threats are escalating. But Rex hasn’t searched this long, risked so much, and come this far to lose Raven all over again.
