Thriller Psychological

PLEASE SEE US is one of those thriller novels that you will love to read, not only because the characters mysterious in their own way, but you also feel for many of them as they make their mistakes. Caitlin Mullen's debut novel is a sensational read that will keep you occupied until the end. A heart-wrenching story at times about two young women who come across each other under circumstances that normally they would have not met. As their worlds intertwine these two unlikely friends become close enough to understanding each other more than they would have ever expected.

The story takes place during the summer in Atlantic City, and two Jane Does are in a marshland and no one knows except the person who left them there. Clara is a psychic who keeps having visions that are very disturbing. They are brought on after viewing a reading for a client. Then she seems to have more that are related to some missing girls in the area. She then meets Lily who has had her own personal issues that brought her to town to work in a nearby spa. Lily, who use to work in an art gallery feels that Clara could use some help after she confides to her about her visions. Can they find the victims before they too become one of the missing who only want to be seen?

A psychological thriller, PLEASE SEE US by Caitlin Mullen will have you holding your breath in fear at times and feeling heartbroken in others. The ending is not what I expected but did not make me feel unsatisfied either. Mullen truly did an awesome job with this novel. The story was easy to follow even with so many Jane Does you always knew which one was being referenced. This will be a thriller you want to put on your summer read list.

SUMMARY

In this sophisticated, suspenseful debut reminiscent of Laura Lippman and Chloe Benjamin, two young women become unlikely friends during one fateful summer in Atlantic City as mysterious disappearances hit dangerously close to home.

Summer has come to Atlantic City but the boardwalk is empty of tourists, the casino lights have dimmed, and two Jane Does are laid out in the marshland behind the Sunset Motel, just west of town. Only one person even knows they’re there.

Meanwhile, Clara, a young boardwalk psychic, struggles to attract clients for the tarot readings that pay her rent. When she begins to experience very real and disturbing visions, she suspects they could be related to the recent cases of women gone missing in town. When Clara meets Lily, an ex-Soho art gallery girl who is working at a desolate casino spa and reeling from a personal tragedy, she thinks Lily may be able to help her. But Lily has her own demons to face. If they can put the pieces together in time, they may save another lost girl—so long as their efforts don’t attract perilous attention first. Can they break the ill-fated cycle, or will they join the other victims?

Evocative, eerie, and compelling, Please See Us is a fast-paced psychological thriller that explores the intersection of womanhood, power, and violence.
