Harry Rose should have been one of the happiest men alive. After all, he was the heir to the Rose Corporation. Unfortunately, Harry had the worst luck any man could have. When Harry was just a teenager, his parents died and so did his brother. Which left Harry and his two sisters Megan and Margot. Harry met his first wife Katie, who was a few years older than him but that didn’t bother either one of them. They got married--one reason, of course, is love, and the second? Katie was going to have a baby. Katie lost this baby and things changed between them. One of the changes was that Harry started an affair with a woman named Bennie, which lead to one child. After several months, Katie got pregnant again and this time they were blessed with a baby girl Marie. As their life went on, Katie suffered another miscarriage, and Harry continued with his affairs.
One of Harry’s affair was with Ana. They carried on for several years, Ana wanted to get married but Katie being Catholic would not give him a divorce, until he found a lawyer who got around the loopholes and Harry got his divorce. Shortly after he married Ana and they had a child together, Eliza. Harry at this time was mixed up with a Russian mob. There were some moves that this man wanted Harry to get into but Ana stood in the way. One night at work, Ana was alone in the office when a janitor came in and stuck something in her neck. . . andAna died that night. Harry was upset once again because he lost someone he had loved. While he was still married to Ana, he had an affair with his secretary Janette. Before her death, Ana vowed to get more than half of what he was worth. After her death, Harry married Janette, they were very happy together and welcome Harry’s first son, Eddie. Once again Harry is struck with sorrow, as Janette dies from childbirth.
Poor Harry would he ever have a happy life. Then he meets Caitlyn, who wanted nothing more than to be an actress. Harry gets her a part in a reality show where she is a judge. Of course, nothing is going to go right, as Caitlyn has a brief affair with one of the other judges. It hits the paper, and Harry is pissed that she would do this to him. He gets his lawyer and quickly divorces her. Caitlyn is beside herself as she truly loves Harry and wants to get back with him. Harry wants no part of her, Caitlyn jumps off a bridge. Harry has been doing nothing but drinking and taking prescription drugs. Finally, he goes to his doctor and meets up with Clare, who had been his nurse before. Harry soon marries her and things are going great until an article appears in the paper letting people know that Harry might have had something to do with Ana's death. Along with all of this, his first wife Katie dies of natural causes. So poor Harry. . . he might have tons of money and three children, but once again he is alone. We all know Harry; this probably is not the end of his love affairs.
WIFE AFTER WIFE by Olivia Hayfield is a great novel. What I really liked was at the back of the book is a list of all the characters. This really helps because there are so many characters in this story. There are several other storylines that all connect in some way to Harry. Hayfield also shows how as much as Harry tried his best, he just couldn’t stop having affairs. Nowadays, they do label this as a disease. Loosely based on the life of Henry VIII and his tumultuous love life, WIFE AFTER WIFE is not to be missed.
A modern take on the life and marriages of Henry VIII, if he were a 21st century womanizing media mogul rather than the king of England.
Master of the universe Harry Rose is head of the Rose Corporation, number eighteen on the Forbes rich list, and recently married to wife number six.
