SOMEONE WE KNOW is one of those thrillers that has not only an incredible storyline but also amazing happenings throughout each chapter. Written by Shari Lapena, known for other suspense thrillers, has outdone herself with this one. The story is told by the eyes of each of the characters that have important roles, however not enough is told that makes you see what is coming at the end. This novel even makes you stop and think about the people around you.
The whole story started because of a murder in a small neighborhood where everybody either knows everybody or knows of them. And if they don’t, then they are just about to find out. At the same time, a young teenager is breaking into homes and hacking into the homeowner’s computers. He probably knows secrets, but if he does, he is not telling. When his mother finds out, she leaves anonymous letters for the homeowners to let them know how sorry she is and that he has been taken care of at home. No one knows who he is.
With the break-ins and the murder, the whole neighborhood is on high alert, and the police are asking everyone questions to get to the bottom of the homicide. Will everyone’s secrets come out? At what cost will they pay to try to keep their own? The ending will shock you!
I love thrillers like this that shows scandalizing details among the characters leaving the storyline going any which way. However, Shari Lapena knows how to lead it in a way that you may not have guessed at all. As she wrote THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR and A STRANGER IN THE HOUSE, that I have also read, SOMEONE NEXT DOOR kept her to reputation as New York Times Bestselling Author!
