Phoebe Noble Miller is the only heiress of Daniel Noble, a recently disgraced millionaire who has passed away. Due to her father's insidious nature of crimes, Phoebe has no choice but to become a recluse within her own house, doing very little but drinking, eating ice scream and feeling apathetic about everything that is going on around her, aside from the mysterious Courier Package van that stops everyday beside her house, spying on her, or so she thinks. Her relationship with her husband, a middle-class psychologist, is strained, and when her neighbors arrive, in particular, the vivacious Vicki as well as her handsome eighteen-year-old son, Jake, Phoebe starts to come out of her shell, relaxing her guard against the mysterious courier delivery. Little does she know that her mistakes will catch up with her, leaving a tangled mystery and tenuous connections between the people who will become caught up in this twisted drama of lies, greed, and crimes of passion.
I honestly cannot believe that this is Allison Dickson's first novel and am sad that I have finished THE OTHER MRS. MILLER. From the first few pages, I became caught up in this extraordinary and unpredictable tale about Phoebe's life (or lack of it) as well as her fascinating characterization that Allison Dickson crafts when it comes to her. While at first, the tale is a bit slow- going, it quickly takes off, and the reader becomes sucked in by a tornado nestling inside the pages, obsessing and going over every revealed detail where Allison Dickson teases multiple possibilities before settling on one. THE OTHER MRS. MILLER by Allison Dickson is a tale highly worthy of being said in the same breath as MY LOVELY WIFE by Samantha Downing.
For readers who enjoy roller-coaster thrillers where nothing is as it seems as well as well-crafted characters and the tension thick enough to slice with a knife, THE OTHER MRS. MILLER by Allison Dickson is a worthy addition to your bookshelf.
