Historical

Masquerading as a married couple, complete with a wedding ring, escaping from France in 1943, Donald and Francoise are on an extremely dangerous mission that, if caught, they are certain to be executed. Unknown to each other before connecting in the Italian Alps, they are both highly trained Special Operations Executive (SOE) agents and hope to achieve their mission with the help of the local resistance fighters.

Growing up in the achingly beautiful, but slowly diminishing tiny village of Ardnish on the northern coast of the Scottish highlands, Donald's father had died at the end of WWI before he was born; yet, like his Dad when the call to fight came a generation later, Donald Angus Gillies quickly joined the Lovatt Scouts and then moved over to the SOE on his boss' recommendation. While attracted to the beautiful and fearless Canadian SOE agent from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Donald feels a little intimated by her more educated and wealthy background, despite his own many capabilities. Surviving the perilous mission, Donald seeks to find out what happened to Francoise as she never returned. Was she killed or captured? Will he ever find out?

WE FOUGHT FOR ARDNISH is the wonderful and uplifting romantic sequel to ARDNISH WAS HOME, written by Angus MacDonald who is well familiar with Highlanders and their stories both from his home in the Scottish Highlands as well as the many who made Cape Breton their home. Many of the events and WWII exploits are based on true stories and ring authentically in WE FOUGHT FOR ARDNISH while the characters, so real in the pages of the book, are fictitious.

While WE FOUGHT FOR ARDNISH can also be read as a stand-alone story, it is more meaningful and poignant as a sequel. While the novel itself is easy to read, there are moments when you hold your heart in a tight suspenseful grip, especially when reading what Francoise experiences. Jam-packed with stories, WE FOUGHT FOR ARDNISH provides quite a different perspective to stories and adventures of WWII.

Whether you're a history buff or love a little romance tale, there is much to find to your delight in WE FOUGHT FOR ARDNISH! Enjoy... but read the extraordinary tale in ARNISH WAS HOME first! It's a real gem, too!
