Lady Henrietta Sedley has plans to inherit her father's business but first, she wants to experience the pleasure she'll miss out on as a spinster. When Whit, also known as Beast, is discovered unconscious and bound in Hattie's carriage, they strike up a deal that will change both their lives. I really enjoyed the departure from the normal beauty and the beast trope with Beast being incredibly good looking while Hattie considered herself to be much less so. Whit was still delightfully grumpy and reticent while Hattie was constantly speaking. I loved both BRAZEN AND THE BEAST.
I felt like the story was much more character-driven than plot-driven, at least for most of the book. That's not exactly my cup of tea, but I still found this to be an easy and enjoyable read. There was a lot of description, but just enough dialogue and action to balance that out.
Even though there wasn't as much action to drive the story forward as there was character development, the action that was present kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. The villain was not all that "villainy," in my opinion, but I have a feeling it's because he has a redemption story coming at some point. There was some setup for that in this book (as well as the first), but I didn't feel that it took away from Hattie and Whit's story at all.
BRAZEN AND THE BEAST was delightful beginning to end with characters that grow and change throughout.
