Single mother Poppy Patterson has always done whatever was necessary to make sure her son, Ace, is happy and thriving. Even if that meant moving across the country when she was sixteen and now working a job at a high-end nightclub that requires she wear a corset and straighten her natural curls. But it pays the bills and she and Ace are happy. Until one night when hotshot wide receiver of the Denver Mustangs TK Moore walks into the club and she literally falls over.
TK is just as surprised to see Poppy, his high school girlfriend. After nine years, he's never forgotten her and still harbors feelings for Poppy. But when Poppy drops a bombshell, TK knows he's willing to do whatever it takes to keep Poppy and Ace in his life. Thrust into the high profile world of Denver Mustang football, Poppy has to decide if she's willing to let TK back in after all these years...
A sassy and sexy contemporary sports romance! I thoroughly enjoyed FUMBLED by Alexa Martin. Poppy was a determined and independent heroine who did whatever it took to keep her son happy. TK Moore was perfectly swoon-worthy, just the right amount of cocky, and completely devoted to getting Poppy back in his life. I loved the inside look at football wife/girlfriend life, which felt authentically gossipy and hilarious! Considering Alexa Martin is a former football wife herself, it was refreshing to see Poppy find her "tribe" of women, even when there were catty comments coming from other characters. The perspective is completely from Poppy, and at times I wished I knew a little bit more from TK's POV, but I still found myself relating and rooting for them both. There's a very real and serious plot line about CTE, the brain disorder that the actual NFL is currently grappling with right now. Poppy and TK have to deal with this, and it was among their most emotional conversations. Overall, I loved FUMBLED and can't wait for the next Playbook novel!
