Thriller Psychological

In Cedar Heights, Nebraska, 18-year-old Joshua Mayo is looking forward to a promising future. A talented golfer like his dad Teddy, Joshua is hoping to go to Clemson University to study landscape design and eventually build great golf courses after a pro golfing career. That all changes in a minute when he and his dad are leaving the Hawkeye Wildlife Preserve after hitting buckets of golf balls. Joshua hits a man with his car doing damage to his grille and smashing the front window. The angry victim turns on his father and Joshua defends his dad by hitting him in the head with a rock and killing the man... In another town close by, Amber, her husband Ross, and his pill- popping brother, Shane are robbing a bank, using silly character masks to hide their identities. Wanting to start a new life with the stolen cash, Amber convinces Ross to leave Shane on the curb and they escape together in their getaway car. Miles away in a forest, their car breaks down, so they decide to continue on foot, carrying $45,000 in a duffle bag. As they enter the forest, they see a parked car and a woman and young man bending over looking at a body... Realizing what has happened, Amber and Ross take Joshua and his mother Karen hostage. Things go haywire when Shane catches up to them, and he's proving to be more and more dangerous. Karen is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her son, and she's determined to keep them both alive. ONE FATAL MISTAKE is an exciting non-stop thrill ride that is presented brilliantly by a new-to-me author Tom Hurt. A story of total devotion by a mother who will do anything to save her son from ruining his life. Teddy, her ex-husband, who stays in touch with his son, becomes a hero in my eyes and I liked him very much. What detours! What shockers!! Lies on top of lies multiply as we ask ourselves "What would we do in a similar situation?" A really outstanding read and I am now looking for KILLER CHOICE, his debut novel. He has a loyal fan. Thank you, Mr. Hunt.

SUMMARY

The author of Killer Choice, a thriller "full of shocks and twists you won't see coming" (Lee Child), delivers a nail-biting novel about a hit and run, and a lie that goes horribly wrong... Her son accidentally kills a man.
They cover it up.
Then everything goes wrong. When eighteen-year-old Joshua Mayo takes a man's life in a horrible accident, he leaves the scene without reporting the crime to the police. He hopes to put the awful night behind him and move on with his life. But, of course, he ends up telling his mother, Karen, what happened. Karen has raised Joshua on her own in Cedar Rapids, Iowa--and she'd thought they'd finally made it. He was doing well in school and was only months from starting college. After hearing his dark confession, she is forced to make a choice no parent should have to make, one that draws them both into a web of deceit that will change their lives forever--if they make it out alive....
