Wow! That is one word that could sum up the feeling one will get when they finish one of the best psychological thrillers I have read yet! NO EXIT written by Taylor Adams grips you by the guts from the very beginning holding you until the end with many, many twists and turns down to the last sentence in the book. This is a novel that had me fearing it as well as wanting to finish it. Just when I was ready to breathe again something else came around on the next page that had me by the lungs holding my breath until the next surprise came along. This is what thriller writer should be. So good that you forget you are reading, where you are, and that it's just a book. As I read I was there at that rest stop shaking at all the drama that shocked my eyes as I turned the pages.
Darby is on her way from college during Christmas to visit her dying mom. It's snowing and the weather is so bad for driving conditions that she has to pull off at a rest exit. This one stop will change her life forever. With no reception on her phone and an almost dead phone battery anyway, it leaves her for no communication for the outside world. She meets four other people at this rest stop and on a walk outside she realizes that a little girl has been kidnapped and is being held in a dog crate in a van. But whose is it? How can she find out without giving herself away? Who can she trust? What should she do? Does she make the right choice?
NO EXIT has me rethinking rest stops and trips in the snow! You will not forget this novel by any means. Taylor Adams has a way of taking his readers off guard and keeping them there. This is my first novel of his and now I'll be buying his others. My new favorite thriller writer and I bet he will be yours too.
