In order to get ready for a big event, a group of five best friends, one
girl and four guys, decide to find their dates online. Nothing wrong with
that. Except, there was a time when Millie and one of the guys, Reid,
slept together, which sparked sizzling chemistry between them. But
that was before the online situation, so it shouldn't be a big deal, right?
But when Millie rewrites the guys' personality profiles but keeps her
own very vague, the guys end up getting a ton of matches, and she just
gets unsolicited naked photos. After finding out that Reid gets matched
with someone, Millie creates a secret personality profile to see what
could happen... and she gets matched with him. Unwilling to back down
from the challenge of seducing Reid, Millie uses her secret profile to
compete against another woman, hoping that Reid will figure things
out. Millie finds herself truly opening up to Reid, and only then realizes
that she is in way over her head when she develops romantic feelings
for him. Ultimately, will their friendship become something more, or will
they lose each other in a comic mix up of catfishing, missed
opportunities, secrets, and walls that Millie has built around her heart?
My first Christina Lauren novel was JOSH AND HAZEL'S GUIDE TO NOT DATING, which I
loved to pieces. I expected for MY
FAVORITE HALF-NIGHT STAND to be very similar to JOSH AND HAZEL'S GUIDE TO NOT
DATING, but they were actually very different. Because of how
much I loved the previous book, MY
FAVORITE HALF-NIGHT STAND had a lot to live up to in my eyes.
Nonetheless, there are a lot of things I loved about this book! The
intimacy that Christina Lauren captures within the group dynamics of
Millie, Ed, Alex, Christopher, and Reid was wonderful. I also loved the
relationships the guys had with one another and with Reid's family. The
story is modern and edgy, and MY
FAVORITE HALF-NIGHT STAND did have a few unexpected
moments of humor that made me laugh. Some of the strengths from JOSH AND HAZEL'S GUIDE TO NOT
DATING definitely carried over to MY FAVORITE HALF-NIGHT STAND, such as the
importance of family and friends and how vital they are to the main
characters.
For upcoming busy holiday nights, MY
FAVORITE HALF-NIGHT STAND by Christina Lauren is an ideal
read!
Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa
Barbara professor, she’s a female-serial-killer expert who’s
quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting
personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and
fellow professors, is perma-single.
So when a routine university function turns into a black tie
gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that they’ll join an
online dating service to find plus-ones for the event.
There’s only one hitch: after making the pact, Millie and
one of the guys, Reid Campbell, secretly spend the sexiest
half-night of their lives together, but mutually decide the
friendship would be better off strictly platonic.
But online dating isn’t for the faint of heart. While the
guys are inundated with quality matches and potential dates,
Millie’s first profile attempt garners nothing but dick pics
and creepers. Enter “Catherine”—Millie’s fictional profile
persona, in whose make-believe shoes she can be more
vulnerable than she’s ever been in person. Soon “Catherine”
and Reid strike up a digital pen-pal-ship...but Millie can’t
resist temptation in real life, either. Soon, Millie will
have to face her worst fear—intimacy—or risk losing her best
friend, forever.
Perfect for fans of Roxanne and She’s the Man, Christina
Lauren’s latest romantic comedy is full of mistaken
identities, hijinks, and a classic love story with a modern
twist. Funny and fresh, you’ll want to swipe right on My
Favorite Half-Night Stand.
