A SHIFTER CHRISTMAS CAROL is a delightful retooling of a classic Christmas story. As Dylan Morrisey is quick to point out -- he is no Ebenezer Scrooge. In A SHIFTER CHRISTMAS CAROL Dylan is visited by three Christmas "ghosts" in the guise of friends he knows. These ghosts visit scenes from Christmas past, present, and future which cause him to reflect on his life. Jennifer Ashley tells an entertaining and intriguing holiday-inspired tale of reflection, family, vampires, and one fabulously sentient house.
Dylan Morrisey is one of Jennifer Ashley's most fascinating and complex characters. Dylan's not a bad guy, but he can be very single-minded and hardheaded -- particularly when it comes to protecting his family and other Shifters. Even though he obviously loves his family and being with them, he is not afraid to walk alone if he thinks he needs to for the greater good. Over the course of the "Shifters Unbound" series, readers have seen the many sides of Dylan -- loving father and grandfather, warrior, lover, problem-solver, hero, and antihero. In A SHIFTER CHRISTMAS CAROL, readers get a rare glimpse into the inner workings of Dylan's mind and gain some insight into a very enigmatic character. Ashley manages to balance the ghostly thrills with character-driven and spot-on storytelling.
A SHIFTER CHRISTMAS CAROL is a perfect tale of Christmas ghosts and Shifter heart. For longtime fans, it's great to see familiar and favorite characters having some holiday fun. I like Jennifer Ashley's choice of the three "ghosts" who visit Dylan, and the ending to this story is heartwarming without coming across as sappy. Once again Ben plays the role of helpful sidekick and I to read his story soon. I look forward to Jennifer Ashley's next "Shifters Unbound" story".
