Suspense Psychological | Thriller Domestic

Kat is a glass blower, a trade that not many people have anymore. She loves her life on Martha's Vineyard along with her boyfriend Sean. They have been together for over seven years, and both are happy with the arrangement that they have.

One night will change all of their lives. After Kat sells one of her glass statues, they go out to celebrate. Along with Kat and Sean is their good friend Hunter. They go to the bar where everyone knows them, and Kyle is the bartender. They don't know Kyle that well, but he seems like a great guy. Instead of going home Kat, Hunter, and Kyle decide to go out for a ride on Hunter's boat. They're all are pretty drunk, and when Hunter falls asleep, Kyle starts to put the moves on Kat. Kat tries all she can to get him off of her, and when Hunter wakes up he pulls him off of her, causing Kyle to go overboard.

Kat wants to call the police, but Hunter, who has been in a lot of trouble lately, thinks that Kyle will swim back to shore. Unfortunately, Kyle washes up on shore dead. Kat and Hunter now are trying to decide what they should do. Hunter is afraid to say anything, mainly because his father is running for senator and Hunter knows that this could cause his father to lose. The lawyer for Hunter's father offers Kat over a million dollars to keep her mouth shut. Kat is having a hard time with this. Her relationship is Sean is falling apart because he can tell there is something bothering Kat, but she won't talk about it...

EVERYTHING THAT FOLLOWS by Meg Little Reilly is really good. To think how all these lives were changed because of one night. I don't know how I would have handled this. Do you go to the police or just hope that this would just blow over? Once again I have to say that Reilly writes a great book about friendship and trusting each other.

SUMMARY

CAUGHT IN THE BACKWASH, THEY HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THEIR LIVES…

For fans of Megan Abbott and Chris Bohjalian comes a novel of moral complexity about friends who must choose between self-preservation and doing the right thing in the wake of a fatal boating accident. Set in the moody off-season of Martha’s Vineyard, Everything That Follows is a plunge into the dark waters of secrets and flexible morals. The truth becomes whatever we say it is…

Around midnight, three friends take their partying from bar to boat on a misty fall evening. Just as the weather deteriorates, one of them suddenly and confusingly goes overboard. Is it an accident? The result of an unwanted advance? His body disappears quickly, silently, into the dark water. The circumstances are murky, but what is clear is that the other two need to notify the authorities. Minutes become hours become days as they hesitate, caught up in their guilt and hope that their friend has somehow made it safely to shore. As valuable time passes, they find themselves deep in a moral morass with huge implications as they struggle to move forward and live with their dark secret.
