The Kane family was one of the richest and most powerful families in
Vermont. Andrew is the governor and Henry is a policeman working to
get bad cops off the street. Molly is going to school after being in
service to become a state patrol officer, and Tyler, Molly's twin, who
had a brain injury years ago, plays video games all day. Until everything
changes...
While Andrew is campaigning, a strange man gives him a throwaway
phone and tells him he is going to need this. Andrew really thought
nothing about it, until one day his brother Tyler is arrested for murder.
The phone calls start coming after the death of an innocent victim,
named Sally. They all know that there is no way that Tyler killed anyone.
Being in the police department, Henry is trying to do whatever he can
to get to the bottom of who the blackmailer is. And Molly is willing to
do whatever she can to protect her twin brother.
As more and more calls come in, Andrew has to make some very hard
choices which will affect his office as the governor. Henry is putting his
job on the line when he hides evidence that the blackmailer told him
where to find it. As the Kanes see their lives fall apart, only the
blackmailer can save them... or can he?
A BLOOD THING is a great book
by James Hankins. Hankins writes how a family would do anything to
protect one of their own, even if they lose everything that they always
wanted. I really enjoyed the interaction between these siblings, even
though they all have secrets from each other that will come out to
protect their brother.
I will be looking for more of James Hankins books because I am sure
that they are as great as this one. The one thing I really hated is that I
finished it so fast. I would love to see if there is a sequel to this book.
This is a quick and enjoyable murder mystery to read.
Never trust a blackmailer.
Vermont’s promising young governor, Andrew Kane, is at
another public meet-and-greet when a stranger from the
crowd slips him a cell phone and whispers, “Keep this
with you…keep it secret…you’re going to need it after the
arrest.”
Hours later, Andrew’s brother, Tyler, is taken into
custody—framed for the brutal murder of a young woman—and
Andrew discovers there is only one way to free him:
answer the mysterious phone and agree to a blackmailer’s
demands. All the governor has to do to make it all go
away is compromise everything he stands for and grant a
full pardon to a convicted felon. With no better option,
he complies. Which is his first mistake…because the
stranger isn’t through with him. He has another little
condition. Then another. And another. And Andrew has no
choice but to play along until he can find a way out of
this personal and political nightmare. But he isn’t
prepared for what he will face, or how far he will have
to go to save his brother and keep his family together.
