Women's Fiction Contemporary

RAINY DAY FRIENDS by Jill Shalvis is another great story in The Wildstone Series that deals with loss, betrayal and new friendships. Imagine being married to someone for five years and discovering after his death, other women claiming to be his wife come forth. Can you imagine what it would feel like to discover these painful and humiliating betrayals while you are also dealing with a loss? How would you feel to find out that the person you thought you knew better than anyone turns out to be a serial adulterer? Would you ever feel like you could trust anyone or yourself again?

Lanie Jacob's world has been rocked to the core. In order to put her life back together, she needs a fresh start. She takes a job with a winery that's run by the boisterous Capriotti family. Lanie has never really had her own family. So when the Capriottis immediately accept her as one of them she's not sure what to think. She's even more flustered by Air Force veteran Mark Capriotti and his adorable twin daughters. Both Lanie and Mark are dealing with hurt and betrayal. What starts out as casual and fun-loving turns to more than either of them expected. Lanie finally starts to feel comfortable and accepted into a family life that she never had before. But once again her world will be blown out of the water.

RAINY DAY FRIENDS will blow you away with the outcome. Jill Shalvis will have you looking wide-eyed and wondering where this story will take you. She will have you rooting for a positive outcome for all in an impossible situation. This is a well- written, thought-provoking story filled with pain and betrayal with hopes of healing all around.

SUMMARY

Six months after Lanie Jacobs’ husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen her sense of pain and loss. But then Lanie discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his sudden passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who, like Lanie, each believe she was his legally wedded wife. Rocked by the infidelity, Lanie is left to grapple with searing questions. How could she be so wrong about a man she thought she knew better than anyone? Will she ever be able to trust another person? Can she even trust herself? Desperate to make a fresh start, Lanie impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. At first, she feels like an outsider among the boisterous Capriottis. With no real family of her own, she’s bewildered by how quickly they all take her under their wing and make her feel like she belongs. Especially Mark Capriotti, a gruffly handsome Air Force veteran turned deputy sheriff who manages to wind his way into Lanie’s cold, broken heart—along with the rest of the clan. Everything is finally going well for her, but the arrival of River Brown changes all that. The fresh-faced twenty- one-year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light—secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build.
