Bob was born a male, but she always knew that she felt more like a woman than a man. Bob married Betsy and they had a good life for five years until Bob knew it was time to have the surgery to make her look and feel what she always knew to be her true self. After divorcing Betsy, Bob became Bobbi Logan. Bobbi and Betsy remain friends, and Betsy's daughter Roberta calls her "Aunt Bobbi."
Now, Bobbi is leading the life that she always wanted. Bobbi owns a high-class beauty salon and has just gotten out of a relationship. She has a strange feeling that someone is following her. Bobbi has been on other dates since her breakup, and most of them do not end well. Years ago, Bobbi had been raped by several men, who targeted her because of her differences. She has never really gotten over this trauma, and it haunts her while she suspects someone is following her, and her string of bad dates. Then, her salon and house are broken in to, causing Bobbi to think about her past. For some reason, the number seven keeps popping up, and she knows it is related somehow. She even goes so far as to check in on the men who caused her so much pain in the past, but she can only come up with six names, rather than the seven she was sure of were involved... Strange things continue to happen, and Bobbi is sure these things are related to her past.
Renee James writes a very in-depth story of what it must be like to be transgender. After reading SEVEN SUSPECTS, I really felt for Bobbi and all she had to go through just to be herself. I can't imagine what it must be like to go through life feeling like you aren't really being true to yourself. And, reading that Renee James is the pen name of a transgender author, I was really impressed with the genuine nature of this novel. SEVEN SUSPECTS has a little romance, shows the true meaning of friendship, but is still a thriller until the end. Bobbi Logan is a great character, and I hope she will show up again. A great read!
