Owen Wheeler is on a mission to capture and bring to justice a man from his past. Hetta Gwynne is a unique woman who thinks all men are the same. Leigh Greenwood's Night Riders series continues with the story of Hetta and Owen coming together. Both are scarred by similar family dysfunctions. Owen is on the trail of Laveau, an evil man who betrayed the Night Riders during the Civil War. Everyone in Pinto Junction thinks Laveau is their savior and is keeping the Army and rustlers away. Hetta meets Owen when he shows up at her best friend's house to rent a room. When he realizes that Hetta doesn't like him, Owen sets out to change her mind, and prove that Laveau isn't the hero everyone thinks he is, and above all, show her she deserves love.
Owen and Hetta bring out the best in each other while spending time working to rebuild her ranch together. Their hard work is interrupted when Laveau comes back to town and threatens Hetta and Owen's safety. Will they survive against Laveau? And can they learn to trust one another to find their true happiness together?
Handsome and devilishly charming Owen
Wheeler has always had a way with women, but the war has
left him a changed man. He's no longer interested in
breaking hearts. Now on the trail of a fellow Night Rider
turned traitor, he will stop at nothing to ensure that
justice is done.
There's nothing about fiercely
independent―and plain―Hetta Gwynne that should make Owen
long to trade his vendetta for peace, but something about
her makes him feel like the man he always wanted to be. Owen
can see a chance for a real future at Hetta's side...if only
he could convince her to let down her guard and trust in the
passion neither of them can deny.
