Feeling overwhelmed, Cara Burrows just needs to get away from her
husband and two children. Cara doesn't tell them where she's going,
just that she would be home by October 24th. She ends up at a
beautiful resort but has problems from day one. First, the resort gives
her a room that already has people in it, a man and a teenage girl. Cara
thinks the girl looks like Melody Chapa, a famous missing murder
victim, whose parents are in jail for the crime, and her body was never
found.
Cara becomes obsessed with this mystery, and if this girl is really
Melody. She begins researching the backstory of the murder, and
strange things begin happening at the resort. There is a spa on the
resort where people go to relax and can leave messages that
supposedly come true. One of the messages is that Cara will be safe,
which is confusing to Cara because she feels fine. But then danger
comes too close for comfort to Cara the more she discovers Melody's
case, and she wonders if the message will really come true.
What a great thriller by Sophie Hannah.
She's the most famous murder victim in America. What if
she's not dead?
Pushed to the breaking point, Cara Burrows flees her home
and family and escapes to a five-star spa resort she
can't afford. Late at night, exhausted and desperate, she
lets herself into her hotel room and is shocked to find
it already occupied — by a man and a teenage girl.
A simple mistake at the front desk... but soon Cara
realizes that the girl she saw alive and well in the
hotel room is someone she can't possibly have seen: the
most famous murder victim in the country, Melody Chapa,
whose parents are serving natural life sentences for her
murder.
Cara doesn't know what to trust — everything she's read
and heard about the case, or the evidence of her own
eyes. Did she really see Melody? And is she prepared to
ask herself that question and answer it honestly if it
means risking her own life?
