Matt Sinclair is a homicide sergeant who really loves his job. Called into a murder scene, Matt expects another random murder or a drug deal gone wrong, but he's surprised to find that the victim is his old partner, Phil Roberts. He and his new partner, Cathy Braddock are stunned to see the body of their friend at a gruesome crime scene.
While investigating this murder, Matt is determined to find the killer. For some reason, Matt is being blocked by people above him and he can't go through Phil's desk. But why? The only thing that Matt can come up with is that someone is trying to hide something. Was Phil a dirty cop?
The more Matt and Cathy investigate, the more strange things come up, and soon, Matt is taken off the case without explanation. Matt is not going to give up on this murder. He owes it to Phil to find out what really happened to him. Cathy tries to give Matt as much information as she can, but she must be careful or she could lose her job, too.
I really loved this book. Brian Thiem writes a great police mystery.
When the Oakland coronerβs office uncovers a body buried in
a shallow grave in the outskirts of the city, homicide
sergeant Matt Sinclair expects to find a drug dealer caught
in the crosshairs of a turf war. Instead, the victim is
identified as Phil Roberts, the commander of the police
departmentβs intelligence unit and Sinclairβs former
partner. Police brass want to pin the murder on a
dead member of an outlaw motorcycle gang and they want the
case closed quickly, but Sinclair and his current partner,
Cathy Braddock, arenβt satisfied with that answer. As
Sinclair delves into the details of Robertsβs past, secrets
from his work and personal life come to the surface--secrets
that some people will go to any length to keep buried. But
Sinclair wonβt stop until he finds the truth, even if it
means sacrificing his former partnerβs reputation and
possibly his own career. With Shallow
Grave, Brian Thiem brings back his beloved detective
for a thrilling third adventure in his acclaimed police
procedural series.
