Keira O'Malley knows danger, she's lived it all her life, but there is something about Dmitri Romanov that she can't stay away from. She is perfectly prepared to accept THE BASTARD'S BARGAIN to save her family. And, perhaps she can save the both of them too, but she certainly doesn't plan to make life easy for him.
Dmitri Romanov is part of a power play in New York and Keira O'Malley is a bargaining chip, a chip that he knows not to underestimate. There is something about the youngest O'Malley that has gotten into his blood and he's not going to let her go. He's also not going to let her bring him to his knees either ... so the war begins.
THE BASTARD'S BARGAIN is exactly what I expected this story to be, especially after reading UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION. Keira is an artist, someone who certainly doesn't belong in a crime family and her brother Devlin had been her biggest supporter for her to go out in the world and do her own thing. Then he was killed in the ensuing feuds and Keira hit rock bottom. Though her family tried, it was Dmitri who was able to pull her kicking and screaming out of the drugs and bottles she was hiding in. I like that she was able to begin to fight for herself, to stand up to his "ownership" of her, for that is what she felt her father behaved.
I thought it was funny that every time Dmitri said the word "mine," she would get furious. I don't think it ever crossed her mind that it might have meant more than she thought it did. As I read THE BASTARD'S BARGAIN, it seemed to me that Dmitri did see the real Keira and, though he might not exactly know what love is, he knew he felt something for her. It was very entertaining to watch them grow and accept what everyone else knew.
The complete O'Malley series was well done, with intriguing characters, heart pounding situations, and love that hit them like a freight train. Amazing reads all of them but THE BASTARD'S BARGAIN is my favorite and I can't wait to see what author Katee Roberts offers next.
