Thriller Legal | Suspense | Inspirational Mystery

Ian Wells joined his father's law firm right after college graduation and enjoyed working with his father until his father passed away. Now Ian''s partner is going to retire, and Ian is trying to figure out how to pay the bills and take care of his mother who is suffering from Alzheimer's.

Ian's firm receives a call from Sean Callahan, who is investigating the family members receiving the trust fund from James Doyle, one of Ian's father's old clients. Even though Ian was trying to move away from trust fund cases, he takes the job because his father was involved in it, to begin with, and he could really use the large sum of money Callahan is offering him to take the case. As Ian starts to investigate, he finds some things that just don't seem right. Along with all of this, his mother is getting worse, and keeps saying she can't find "it." Ian thinks "it" is part of her memory loss, but could his mother know something about James Doyle?

More and more, Ian is involved with a huge criminal situation. His law school friend and prosecutor in the of US attorney's office, Brook Daniels is also investigating this case and she warns Ian that there is more to this than any of them realize. On top of that, Ian is being investigated because the money that was deposited in his account for this case has now disappeared. Where did the money go and who took it?

Ian is also having nightmares that he's had since he was a young boy. Ian remembers most of the dream, but he just can't figure out what it has to do with this trust. As more and more comes to light, Ian remembers that this all has to do with his mother and father. What is the connection to this trust and his parents?

Todd Johnson writes a great storyline, and it shows that he has experience as a trial lawyer. At first, I was a little confused by all the different characters, but once I got everyone straight and learned more of the backstory, the plot really moved along. The whole storyline was pretty mind-blowing. Everyone had a connection; even Ian's secretary was connected in some way! Johnson also shows how Ian would do anything to protect his mother and his friend, Brook. This shows what a great person will do for the ones that he lovers. If you want a book that keeps you guessing this is the book you need to pick up and read FATAL TRUST. If you are like me and like mysteries you are going to love this book. Could there be a sequel?

SUMMARY

Riveting Legal Suspense from Lawyer Todd M. Johnson

Ian Wells is a young criminal defense attorney struggling to build a Minneapolis law practice he inherited from his father while caring for a mother with Alzheimer's. Nearly at the breaking point, everything changes for Ian when a new client offers a simple case: determine whether three men qualify for over nine million dollars of trust funds. To qualify, none can have been involved in criminal activity for the past twenty years. Ian's fee for a week's work: the unbelievable sum of two hundred thousand dollars.

Ian warily accepts the job--but is quickly dragged deep into a mystery linking the trust with a decades-old criminal enterprise and the greatest unsolved art theft in Minnesota history. As stolen money from the art theft surfaces, Ian finds himself the target of a criminal investigation by Brook Daniels, a prosecutor who is also his closest law school friend. He realizes too late that this simple investigation has spun out of control and now threatens his career, his future, and his life.
