THE DAY OF THE DUCHESS is the third book in the Scandal & Scoundrel series by Sarah Maclean. Sarah introduced Seraphina and Malcolm in her first book in this series, THE ROGUE NOT TAKEN. Still, this book can read as a stand-alone novel. Seraphina Bevingstoke, Duchess of Haven returns to London after years in exile with one goal in mind; to demand divorce from her husband, Malcolm Marcus Bevingstoke, Duke of Haven. She wants her freedom and to forget the heartache and the pain that resulted from her marriage. She believes Malcolm doesn't have a problem with divorce since he needs an heir and Sera can't have a baby.
Malcolm has been looking for his wife for the last three years, he regretted his behavior and wanted his wife back. But Sera has other plans, and Malcolm is not part of it. So when she asked for the divorce Malcolm needs time to convince her that they belong to each other. He offers her freedom on one condition that she finds her replacement which requires her to spend the summer with her husband.
Sarah MacLean is an amazing story teller that keeps you enthralled through the whole story. Her heroines are strong, stubborn and shock you most the time. THE DAY OF THE DUCHESS starts with a few chapters alternate between present and past to tells the suffering and heartbreaking that Sera had been through. There is lots tension and passion between the hero and heroine. Malcolm doesn't to lose her again but can he convince her to stay.
I absolutely enjoyed reading their love stories; there were some emotional scenes that make me cry but still love it. The only thing that I like to see less in the book is the repetition of the same idea or words. Still, I love her books and her writing. Thank you, Sarah MacLean.
