It is said that everyone has an exact lookalike or a double somewhere in the world. Most people do not find theirs, but what would you do if you found yours?
That is the big question in this case of two young women who suddenly are alerted to the existence of each other. Gia Russo is a well-known wedding planner working in New York City who happens to run into a woman who clearly believes that Gia is someone named Danielle Murano. This woman is so convinced that Gia is just playing games with her that she shows Gia a photo on her phone of Danielle or Dani. Gia is stunned. Except for a few cosmetic differences, Dani looks exactly like Gia.
She convinces the woman that she is not Dani, but she gets enough information to discover Dani's Facebook page. Dani lives in Minneapolis where she works as a veterinarian. Gia decides to message her, and the women make plans to meet each other in person.
When it becomes clear that the women are in danger once Dani travels to New York City, Gia turns to the team at Forensic Instincts for help. She had only recently been the wedding planner for one of the team members and she reaches out to him.
Even though they are in the middle of a stalking case, they decide that Gia and Dani also truly need their help. As they start digging deeper into the events surrounding the women, it becomes even clearer that, for whatever reason, danger does surround them.
There is one more huge twist, though, that no one sees coming, making this one of the team's most challenging cases ever.
Andrea Kane has been a long time favorite author for me as she draws in her readers and makes them feel as if they are a part of the story she is telling. A FACE TO DIE FOR is no different. She does not waste time when diving right into her plot, hooking me from the very first page.
Forensic Instincts is a team of private investigators that Ms. Kane has created in this series of books. There are many members of the team, therefore, there are many interesting characters to meet. I found myself wanting to go to New York City just to meet these highly specialized people.
You will find a few short romantic scenes in A FACE TO DIE FOR, but this is not a "bodice ripper" as the plot focuses more on the mysterious events that begin happening around Gia and Dani. That did not take away from the book for me because I tend to enjoy plots that offer plenty of suspense, which this one does. In fact, A FACE TO DIE FOR is a rather "clean" book so if you prefer that in your plots, those romantic scenes will not get in the way while the mystery will continue to hold you as a captive audience.
A FACE TO DIE FOR seems to have "movie" or "television series" all over it as it is part of a standalone series. You do not have to read each book in the Forensic Instincts series to understand what is happening. On the other hand, once you start reading A FACE TO DIE FOR, you are going to want more.
Packed with plenty of mystery and suspense, A FACE TO DIE FOR is the perfect book to curl up with by the fire on a dark, fall day, but you will probably want to keep the lights on!
