Random murders are occurring throughout New Orleans with an
aerosol can of Chill left at the crime scenes. Could it be a
signature for a gang initiation? Could they have been killed
just to get rid of them, or as a diversionary tactic for
something else? The city is full of people at the height of
Mardi Gras with surveillance cameras and cops everywhere,
but no one has seen anything unusual in a city known for its
bizarre and crazy people. Clues are few as the cops follow
every rumor and small lead.
Ex-Detroit cop Quentin Archer joined the New Orleans police
force following the death of his wife, who lost her life
because of his inquiry into dirty cops in Detroit. Archer
was responsible for the convictions of both his brothers,
but one escaped, so he can never let his guard down. He's
always looking over his shoulder and taking precautions,
even as he investigates these mysterious murders. As he
delves deeper into the victims' lives and their associates,
the killings don't seem as random as they thought. With the
help of the beautifully exotic voodoo queen Solange Cordray,
a scandalous conspiracy starts to unfold. Can Archer
apprehend the vicious killer before another murder occurs?
In THRILL KILL, Don Bruns brings back indomitable
cop Quentin Archer and voodoo queen Solange Cordray for
another thrilling foray into the eccentric and fascinating
world of New Orleans. I enjoyed his descriptive prose,
especially of the Mardi Gras crowds and the nightlife,
which makes for a swift and entertaining reading
experience. Archer and Solange carry on a "will they, won't
they" relationship that's mutually respectful, adding a
nice bit of sexual tension to the story. I can't wait to
see where this will lead in the next installment of this
engaging and exciting series.
Beneath the carefree atmosphere of Mardi Gras,
something very sinister is going on in the intriguing new
Quentin Archer mystery.
Three murders so far. No apparent motive; no link between
the victims; none of them have been robbed. One item ties
them together: a can of spray gas known as Chill has been
left at the scene of each crime. Is someone killing for
kicks? With no leads to pursue and no witnesses coming
forward, all the cops can do is wait for murder number four.
As rumours emerge, Archer realizes there’s a pattern taking
shape. Could there be more to these seemingly random
killings than meets the eye? Teaming up with voodoo queen
Solange Cordray, Archer begins to uncover evidence of a
shocking conspiracy.
