HUNGRY GHOSTS

Fantasy Urban

Eric Carter is a mage, killing his way through Mexico looking for a way into the realm of his wife, La Santa Muerte. The Lady of the Shadows, the Saint of Death, yes, he married her and now he must find her Avatar in order to find directions and a back way into the realm. Then he can do what he needs to do, kill her and her first husband.

I am very upset with myself for finding this series four books in. As a big fan of Harry Dresden and Sandman Slim, I immediately fell in love with Eric Carter. A messed up Mage, that does his best to screw things up while trying to do right. He's funny, he's a smart alek, and he's a badass with his magic. He interacts with the Aztec Gods and a very powerful Djinn. Making mess after mess along the way.

HUNGRY GHOSTS by Stephen Blackmoore is a fast paced, exciting, funny well written book, that lovers of urban fantasy must read. Though you can jump into this series at any point, if book four is this good you will want to read books one through three first. I know I am going to go back and read them.

Stephen Blackmoore has created a world worth exploring with his Eric Carter series and HUNGRY GHOSTS is a great addition to it.

SUMMARY

Necromancer Eric Carter's problems keep getting bigger. Bad
enough he's the unwilling husband to the patron saint of
death, Santa Muerte, but now her ex, the Aztec King of the
dead, Mictlantecuhtli, has come back -- and it turns out
that Carter and he are swapping places. As Mictlantecuhtli
breaks loose of his prison of jade, Carter is slowly turning
to stone. To make matters worse, both gods are trying to get
Carter to assassinate the other. But only one of them can be
telling him the truth and he can't trust either one.
Carter's solution? Kill them both.

If he wants to get out of this situation with his soul
intact he'll have to go to Mictlan, the Aztec land of the
dead, and take down a couple of death gods while facing down
the worst trials the place has to offer him: his own sins.
