After more than a decade, Charlaine Harris has returned to her reader-favorite Aurora Teagarden series. ALL THE LITTLE LIARS takes places exactly where the last book finished with Aurora and her beau, Robin. In the very near future, they will be having a baby together. But even though Roe has her doctor appointments to go to, there's something suspicious happening in their town that takes priority. When various kids start to go missing, including her half brother Philip, Roe starts to feel sick to her stomach. The story unfolds in a dark way, but if you're a fan of this series already, you might be used to Harris' writing style.
Although I would still consider this a Cozy Mystery, it is a little bit darker than others I've read when it comes to the suspense. Nevertheless, Roe and the gang bring in the charm and fun, especially since exciting things are happening in her personal life.
I really like Aurora and Robin. They are simply great together, so the fact that we get to return to them after so many years is a real treat for readers. I don't necessarily think you need to read the other books in the series to understand the mystery of this book, but if you come to enjoy Aurora's personality, it might be a good idea to go back and read the other books to get her full character development.
Harris' writing is quick and easy to follow, so new readers won't have a problem jumping in. I do feel like the mystery takes a while to get started, but once it does, it zooms straight into the dark zone quickly. I think the pacing also had to do with our main heroine being pregnant so she can't be doing things that a non-pregnant character can do. Nevertheless, the core element of ALL THE LITTLE LIARS hits readers right in the heart, creating an immediate bond as the mystery of what happened to these children unfolds.
#1 New York Times bestseller Charlaine Harris
finally returns to her fan-favorite Aurora Teagarden series
with All the Little Liars, a fabulously fun new
mystery.
Aurora Teagarden is basking in the news of her pregnancy
when disaster strikes her small Georgia town: four kids
vanish from the school soccer field in an afternoon.
Auroraβs 15-year-old brother Phillip is one of them. Also
gone are two of his friends, and an 11-year-old girl who was
just hoping to get a ride home from soccer practice. And
then thereβs an even worse discoveryβat the kidsβ last known
destination, a dead body.
While the local police and sheriffβs department comb the
county for the missing kids and interview everyone even
remotely involved, Aurora and her new husband, true crime
writer Robin Crusoe, begin their own investigation. Could
the death and kidnappings have anything to do with a group
of bullies at the middle school? Is Phillipβs disappearance
related to Auroraβs fatherβs gambling debts? Or is Phillip
himself, new to town and an unknown quantity, responsible
for taking the other children? But regardless of the reason,
as the days go by, the most important questions remain. Are
the kids still alive? Who could be concealing them? Where
could they be?
With Christmas approaching, Aurora is determined to find her
brotherβ¦if heβs still alive.
