BAD NEIGHBOR is book one in an untitled series by erotic author M. O'Keefe, the alter ego of romance author Molly O'Keefe. O'Keefe IS all that and a bag of chips. She is the queen of angsty romance that puts the reader through the wringer. I always come out the other side of said wringer emotionally satisfied and happy, though. I will buy anything that O'Keefe writes, because I know it will be amazing -- she always keeps me coming back for more.
BAD NEIGHBOR is written in alternating first person points of view. This is great, because both Jesse and Charlotte are tortured characters. It really helps to be able to see into each one's brain to see what they are thinking, and how they are processing all the messed up things that happen to them, individually and together. Jesse Herrera is an underground fighter. His brother is working as a hitman for a prominent local criminal lord in order to work off the huge debt that Jesse's father left his sons after his death. Jesse is grumpy and foul mouthed. I love him.
Charlotte provides a lot of lighter touches in the book, with her cheerful curtains and cute dresses. Charlotte is an introvert who is in hiding. Charlotte sold everything from her comfy life in order to provide her sister with funds to escape a psychopathic ex-boyfriend. Now Charlotte and her sister have split up and are trying to not be found by the ex. Charlotte moves into a dingy and dangerous apartment complex and finds herself living next door to a surly but super-hot neighbor, Jesse.
Cue the portentous music. Both Charlotte and Jesse know that they present a danger to each other, but they are drawn together like moths to a flame. It's a short book, only 225 pages, so they do fall into bed pretty rapidly. But wow, the sexual tension is off the charts, and the sex scenes will leave you drenched. BAD NEIGHBOR is a lovely story of a sexy anti-hero and sweet introvert saving each other. Book two will be THE BAD BOY'S SECRET BABY. It's about Charlotte's sister, it's coming in May 2017, and I expect it will be a rush as well -- I can't wait to get my hands on it!
