Romance Contemporary | Romance Paranormal

Evanee Brown has always been different but when her past comes back to attack her, Lathan Montgomery is there to save her. Lathan, is a special consultant for the FBI and he knows a lot about being different. He can literally smell the dark memories you are trying to hide. While on the search for "the Strategist" a serial killer, Lathan finds a woman who needs him and seeks to HUNT THE DAWN together.

When she finds herself coming up with evidence in her dreams that could help him, they begin to work together, but can they both survive a world that seems so dark and dangerous.

HUNT THE DAWN is book 2 of Abbie Roads Fatal Dreams series. We met Lathan for a bit in RACE THE DARKNESS (book 1) and instead of being anti-social and rude as we believed, the truth about him comes out as we get to know him so much better. With the "gift" it is also a curse, it is hard for him to be in public as the scents overwhelm him. On top of that he lost most of his hearing in an attack, when his parents had him committed because, of course, he was crazy thinking he could sense memories. There is a growing closeness with this damaged couple that is great to watch. I thought it sweet how he kept referring to her as Honey until we got to the part about his hearing and realized ... Evanee ... Honey sounded the same to him. One of my favorite things about a series is the possible return of past characters and Xander and Isleen do make an app appearance.

I must warn readers that this book is a dark, very nearly horror read. It runs a gambit of situations starting with her having gone through being attacked and forced to run and working in bar while living in a sleazy motel, Lathan with his family situation and his curse followed by numerous other dangerous situations that arise. Top that off with Evanee's dream world, the surprise identity of the serial killer and HUNT THE DAWN compels you, you might even say commands you to keep reading. You might need a night light for a little while after reading this but it is well worth it.

SUMMARY

Out of darkness and danger

You can't hide your secrets from Lathan Montgomery-he can read your darkest memories. And while his special abilities are invaluable in the FBI's hunt for a serial killer, he has no way to avoid the pain that brings him. Until he is drawn to courageous, down-on-her-luck Evanee Brown and finds himself able to offer her something he's never offered another human being: himself.

Dawns a unique and powerful love

Nightmares are nothing new to Evanee Brown. But once she meets Lathan, they plummet into the realm of the macabre. Murder victims are reaching from beyond the grave to give Evanee evidence that could help Lathan bring a terrifying killer to justice. Together, they could forge an indomitable partnership to thwart violence, abuse, and death-if they survive the forces that seek to tear them apart.
