MENDING FENCES brings to life the true experiences of many young women concerning date rape and how it affects families. Two families who have spent ten years raising their kids together are now caught in a situation where one child is accused of rape and another child is one of his victims. One mother tries to believe her child is innocent but deep down she knows the truth. The other mother finds it hard to come to terms with the reality that her daughter is also a victim. When these truths become a reality it will put a strain on their friendship. The best thing about this story is the courage and strength of the young women and how they handle everything that's thrown at them. I really admire how the teenage daughters of the two mothers come forth and speak up.
Emily Dobbs and Marcie Carter have been best friends for ten years, raised their kids together, taken family vacations together and shared everything with each other. Now that friendship is in jeopardy when Marcie's son has been accused of rape. Marcie really wants to believe her son is innocent but as time goes by when she sees his attitude she finds it harder to believe him. Emily notices her daughter has been acting strange and is afraid to admit or ask her what the cause may be. When the truth is revealed it will be devastating to both families.
The detective working the case becomes personally involved with Emily and her family. He has a tragic past that draws him to Emily's daughter and he is determined to get justice for her. Marcie has basically kept her head in the sand her entire marriage but finally opens her eyes when her daughter speaks her mind.
Both of these families go through a really dark period. But after all the turmoil they work toward making a better future by finding a way to MEND FENCES by working through the past.
