This book is an environmental PSA disguised as a romance
novel. Now, don't get me wrong, there is definitely a
romance in there. But we're introduced to the hero, Todd,
as an activist who is willing to break laws and risk
personal health for his causes. His choices to do so to
protect a group of wild horses actually puts our heroine,
Nora, in danger, both physical and vocational. I,
personally, was immediately turned off. I wasn't even
sure I wanted these two to have a happily ever after,
much less spend a few hours of my time reading about it.
I trudged through and will admit the ending was sweet,
but I never got over my initial distaste for Todd. This
is a second chance trope story, so the two of them were
connected and in love earlier in life. The choices Todd
made back then that shaped him into the kind of man who
would choose career over love... well, to be honest, I'm
not sure the author did the work to prove to me he had
changed. Sure, the book ends with Nora and Todd in love,
but I still don't believe he's not walking just after the
novel finishes.
As the Harlequin Superromance line goes, this one is
fine. Just because I couldn't connect with it does not
mean that you won't! Perhaps you are someone for whom the
environment is a passion and you find all of Todd's
behaviors and choices totally awesome and think I'm a
monster for disagreeing. Fantastic - Romanceland is a big
umbrella, full of folks with different opinions. This one
just 100% did not work for me.
This wild stallion can't be tamed
Todd Williams is still the naive idealist he was in college.
Only now he's endangering lives—Nora Hoffman's to be exact.
Nora hasn't seen Todd since he decided that saving the rain
forest was more important than their relationship. Until the
night she's nearly crushed by the stampede he causes. Now
Todd is determined to make amends, for everything.
She may not agree with his methods, but even Nora can't deny
the importance of his fight to save the wild horses. With
the attraction between them still sizzling and the fate of
the horses in the balance, Nora must decide just how much
she's willing to risk.
