Reid Armstrong and his alliance buddy Parker are on vacation when he is contacted by the brother of his former fiancee saying that she and her group are missing and he wants Reid to find her. Even though he was dumped Reid looks at this as an opportunity to work things out with Cara and make up for the wrong choices he made. Waking up to find her camp destroyed, her colleagues missing and her thoughts disoriented, Cara Layne desperately tries to figure out what is going on. She is even more confused when Reid and Parker show up at her camp. Things are even more confusing when members of her team turn up dead.

It soon becomes obvious that Cara is a target. Cara, Reid and Parker find themselves trying to stay ahead of the Russian Ops team that has targeted them. While running for their lives Reid and Cara still have to deal with their unresolved feelings and with the way they ended things. Cara will learn that because of his childhood Reid has issues that caused him to feel that he is not worthy of her. Reid will discover that due to past health issues Cara feels the need to assert her independence and not rely on anyone to take care of her.
