Caleb Pierce was already having a very bad day, when the phone rang and he got the news that his father had a heart attack. Caleb, sure that his hard-as-nails father would pull through, never called his brothers. As if to mock him from the grave, Christian Pierce died but the old tyrant's iron grasp extends beyond the grave. Caleb had been running the company for a few years, and the Pierce brothers -- Caleb, Dalton, and Tristan -- had a falling out when their mother died five years before. Caleb always assumed the company would be his after his father's passing, but the reading of the will proves to be quite a shocker. The brothers have the choice of either dissolving the company, which has been in the family for generations, or that all three brothers live in the same house and make a success of Pierce Brothers, starting from scratch, which will be no piece of cake.
Morgan Raines, an interior designer artist, has clients who want the best, and the best is Pierce Brothers. When she asks Caleb to design a house for Hollywood's royalty, he vehemently refuses, but Morgan pulls a reckless move, which doesn't leave Caleb much choice, especially since the clients are slowly going to other companies after the death of the elder Pierce. The Southern belle is as tough as Caleb, if only she weren't so attractive...
I wasn't too sure how I would like a series based on contractors, but hey, this is Jennifer Probst we're talking about, and of course she makes it work! I really enjoyed the process of everything that goes into building a dream home. Ms. Probst remains true to herself in giving us well-developed characters, a very strong heroine, and a romance that, in spite of the Caleb and Morgan's initial attraction, needs work; there's a lot of push and pull, as both are strong-willed and independent. The banter is enjoyable overall, as well as the bickering between the brothers, which is priceless, albeit not always friendly. We get a good idea of what Tristan and Dalton are all about, as well as several secondary characters that will assuredly feature more prominently in forthcoming books. There is a funny misunderstanding, some hilarious episodes with Caleb's two dogs, as well as mischief from an unwelcome critter.
Morgan also has a serious issue that begged for tissues, and of course there are sexy times with our couple. With EVERYWHERE AND EVERY WAY, Jennifer Probst has her new series built on very solid ground indeed!
