Women's Fiction Contemporary

Claire and her husband Josh write and illustrate children's books. The only thing missing in their lives is a baby. As much as they have tried everything, they can't conceive. The main character of their books is a little boy named Jack. Perhaps this is how they try and live the life they might have if they had a baby.

After several tries, they realize their dream is never going to happen. Claire is having some medical problems; she starts to have severe headaches along with always being tired. Her best friend Abby is her doctor. Abby wants Claire to have some tests to see if they can figure out what is causing her problems.

After several test, it is discovered Claire is finally going to have a baby. But Claire is still getting the headaches and can barely stay awake. So after more tests, the news this time not what they wanted to hear. Claire has a brain tumor. Josh wants her to have an abortion but Claire refuses to give up this baby they have tried so hard to have.

Steena Homes' SAVING ABBY had me in tears. Here are two people so much in love. They would give up everything just to have this child. I am sure there are probably hundreds of families that have or will go through this. As a matter of fact, there is a family in my city that is going through this. Steena Holmes had me so sad at parts, that I didn't know if I wanted to finish this book. But, I knew I had to continue. Glad I did. The funny part is I didn't realize until towards the end that SAVING ABBY would turn out to be the baby's name. For some reason, I kept thinking that this was the main character's name. In a way, it is.

SAVING ABBY is a book you won't want to stop reading. I tried to put it down and do some housework, however, it didn't happen. I just had to keep reading until the end. So be prepared!

SUMMARY

All children’s book illustrator Claire Turner ever wanted was to be a mother. After six years of trying to conceive, she and her husband, Josh, have finally accepted that she will never be pregnant with a child of their own. Yet once they give up hope, the couple gets the miracle they’ve been waiting for. For the first few months of her pregnancy, Claire and Josh are living on cloud nine. But when she begins to experience debilitating headaches, blurred vision, and even fainting spells, the soon-to-be mother goes to the doctor and receives a terrifying diagnosis. Since any treatment could put their unborn baby’s life at risk, the Turners must carefully weigh their limited options. And as her symptoms worsen, Claire will have to make an impossible decision: Save her own life, or save her child’s? USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Steena Holmes brings us an unforgettable story of one woman’s courage and love.
