The YVES SAINT LAURENT COLORING BOOK created by the Fondation Pierre Berge Yves Saint Laurent is a new addition to the growing collection of adult coloring books but would truly be welcome as a conversation piece on any coffee table. Although tempted to actually color in the sketches I would probably make a copy of them to fill in at will and not destroy this lovely book.
The YVES SAINT LAURENT COLORING BOOK is filled with a lovely assortment of this edgy fashion designer's original sketches for many clothing items that are fondly remembered. The book showcases some of his most original images -- many of which were actually made into clothing. We are treated to the colorized versions of these sketches that illustrate the eye for colors of this amazing artist.
Yves Saint Laurent was a clothing designer but this book clearly emphasizes his artistry. The sketches are left basic and void of frill. That is the part the purchaser of this book gets to complete in their own fashion. But along with the sketches are colorized versions by Saint Laurent.
You get to travel down memory lane when you get to the hippie style of dresses. The styles, colors and impressionistic art are items I fondly recall. And you get to try out your artist wings to see what color combinations you can think of for some of these celebrated items.
The YVES SAINT LAURENT COLORING BOOK is a wonderful addition to any crafts library but it would also be a fabulous gift item for anyone with an eye for color, fashion or just for fun.
Adult coloring books (such as
Secret Garden) have exploded in popularity in recent years, embraced for their calming, therapeutic effect. This elegant, imaginative coloring book explores the dynamic, fanciful creations of iconic fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who headed the House of Dior at the age of twenty-one before launching his own design house at age twenty-five. He became famous for the "beatnik" look in the sixties, as well as creating the tuxedo suit for women, and his colorful life was the subject of a recent feature film,
Saint Laurent.
The book's line drawings for coloring are based on many of the designer's original sketches for dresses over the years, accompanied by full-color photos of original dresses for reference. In these pages, one can see the breadth and versatility of his creations; there are designs inspired by harlequins and the Carnival of Venice, Pop Art and Mondrian, and the cultures of Asia, Africa, and beyond. Colorists will in turn be inspired to match St. Laurent's vivid creations, or to create chic new color combinations of their own.
The Yves Saint Laurent Coloring Book is for fashionistas, coloring book enthusiasts, and others with an interest in the history of fashion and in the life of this extraordinary designer.
Full-color throughout.
This book is produced in conjunction with the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent, dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the House of Yves Saint Laurent.
