Tristan Kingsley and Kat Roberts are stunned beyond words when their respective mother and father announce their surprise engagement. Tristan and Kat only became lovers two weeks before, and soon they will be step-siblings! Of course, their parents know nothing of this; Tristan and Kat haven't said a word, and needles to say, it's definitely not the right time to confess. Mrs. Kingsley and Mr. Roberts are finally happy after having both gone through disastrous marriages. Besides, Tristan still has to answer to his dictatorial father, the Earl of Pembroke.
Kat knows she must stop seeing Tristan, especially since she finds herself very close to falling in love with him. But she and Tristan are stuck with each other for three weeks during the Christmas Holidays, and Mrs. Kingsley inadvertently does not help matters when she tries to convince Tristan and Kat they should get to know each other better! Kat really struggles because she is falling in love with Tristan, and she doesn't want to experience the same heartbreak as her father when her mother left them.
Ms. Smith portrays beautifully the anguish and the conflicts the young lovers go through; it never felt contrived. The parents' stories and Tristan's and Kat's are so carefully written, they irrevocably intersect, and the children's wish for their parents' happiness all make for captivating reading, and a whole lot of torment. Tristan and Kat go to Harrods and the Kew Gardens, and those magical moments are a special treat. The descriptions are so vivid, I felt I was right there along with them.
There is a mild cliffhanger at the end of the first book, FORBIDDEN, but there are a couple of doozies at the end of SEDUCTION! Stay tuned because you will not want to miss CLIMAX; things might go very, very wrong for our young lovers!
