THE HUNTER is the second book in the Victorian Rebel series, where Byrne takes us on another journey into the lives of heroes who have been tortured and lost their soul in prison. Although THE HUNTER can be read as a stand-alone novel, I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, THE HIGHWAYMAN. In her first book in the series, Byrne introduced us to the group of dark and broken characters who you will never believe to love. Christopher Argent is another broken hero who had been born in the prison and grew up there. He is one of the richest assassins, one who never miss his mark, so why can't he complete his latest mission, killing the gorgeous actress who is London's darling, Millicent LeCour.
Millicent has been protecting a son, Jakub, and a big secret from the ton. From the first glimpse in the theater, she is attracted to the cold-hearted Christopher, and even when she learns what he was hired to do, she can't control her desire. Now she is torn between the fear and the passion. Christopher wants to find the people who are seeking Millicent demise and swears to protect Millicent and her son.
THE HUNTER is darker than what I usually like to read, but still I like it and can't wait to read her next book in the Victorian Rebel series. THE HIGHWAYMAN balanced the darkness and emotion in the book perfectly, but THE HUNTER is a wonderful novel.
Kerrigan Byrne is a talented author who grabs your attention from the first page and makes you feel all the pains, emotions, and heartache her hero or heroine have been through. THE HUNTER is another well-written, dark romance with great character development. I love how Byrne can make you love her characters, no matter if they're a killer or thief.
